We Are a strong team
The Mining & Energy Union is a structured team consisting of people from a background relevant to the members we represent. When it comes to making decisions about the Union’s future, members get to have a say and a discussion takes place for the district or office team to implement solutions.
When it comes to legal advice, the legal officers have your back, with years of industry experience under their belts. They are committed to the Union, and aim to provide excellent service for any legal issue that a member may encounter.
Members Matter Most
The Mining & Energy Union was formed to support workers, and provide a voice for them. The Queensland Colliery Employees Union was founded in 1908, and since then we have fought hard together to achieve the best safety standards in the world. Since the first District Inspectors were introduced in 1925, ‘Checkies’ have been a vital part of the safety system.
Not limited to safety, Australian coal miners enjoy good pay and conditions. “Holiday pay and sick leave, long service leave and super schemes didn’t just arrive at our front door. Ordinary men and women struggled hard and suffered for what too many people take for granted today. One thing I know for sure, without strong Unions and a rock-solid rank and file, working people will get nothing.” – Tom Mcmahon, coal miner from 1926-1972.
We understand the challenges ahead…
