About The Union
The Mining & Energy Union, a Trade Union registered under federal law with over 120,000 members is one of the largest in Australia. The Mining & Energy Union is an amalgamation of the United Mineworkers’ Federation of Australia, the Building Worker’s Industrial Union, the Federated Engine Drivers and Firemens’ Association, the Australian Timber and Allied Industries Union and other smaller unions. The Districts of the Mining and Energy Division also have state registration.

The Coal Industry
The coal industry is the vast bulk of the Mining & Energy Union’s coverage. It represents an overwhelming majority of the workforce and the CFMEU is recognised as the principle union in the coal industry.

Coal Ports
The Union represents the majority of people employed at export coal ports located along the east coast of Australia.

Oil, Gas & Electricity
The division has members employed at power stations, oil refineries and other parts of the oil and gas production chain.
