jOHN ALLEN & FRANK BAKER GOLF DAY RAISES $40,000 FOR LOCAL CAUSES
The Moranbah community came together in a massive show of support for the annual John Allen & Frank Baker Golf Day, raising close to $40,000 for local charities, arts, and sporting clubs.
Around 200 players took to the course for a fun-filled 10-hole event, honouring the legacy of John Allen and Frank Baker—two dedicated unionists and community leaders. Both were instrumental in the Gordonstone mine lockout dispute and later continued their activism at Moranbah North and Peak Downs mines. Beyond their union work, John and Frank were known for their tireless efforts in supporting local sports, training programs, and fundraising initiatives.
The day began with an emotional speech from Frank and John’s partners, Anne O’Leary and Anne Baker, setting the tone for a heartfelt tribute to two men who gave so much to their community.
The funds raised will be distributed among several key organisations, including Hinterland Community Care, Selectability (Supporting Moranbah), and $10,000 earmarked for local arts and sports clubs.
The overwhelming turnout and generosity showcased just how much John and Frank meant to the community—and how their legacy continues to inspire.
