The Mining & Energy Union is a proud sponsor of many community initiatives through our District’s lodges and the Brisbane Head Office. Without doubt, the largest contributions go toward CQ Helicopter Rescue, which it has supported since the very start in 1996, and Capricorn Helicopter Rescue. From amateur boxing competitions in Gladstone, to the Blackwater Rodeo Association and the Clermont Ride 4 Rocket fundraising ride, the Union consistently gives back to the communities it represents.
CQ and Cap Rescue
The Mining & Energy Union understands that regional communities around Queensland can be out of reach in an emergency. The Union sponsors the incredibly important CQ and Cap Rescue teams, so they can continue to attend to patients suffering from medical conditions or serious accidents that have endangered someone’s life.
In 2019 and 2020, the Union contributed $159,954 and $183,872 respectively to CQ Rescue, while Cap Rescue received over $18,000 in 2020.

Blackwater Rodeo Association
Rodeos and other regional events are important for the livelihood of communities. Events like the Blackwater Rodeo provide meaning for the people involved in organising them, and a chance to let off some steam.
The Blackwater Association holds an annual May Day Rodeo and the Mining & Energy Union is proud to have contributed $10,000 to the 2021 event.
Central Highlands Junior Rugby League
The Mining & Energy Union is a proud sponsor of the Central Highlands Junior Rugby League Football Club. The club provides competition Rugby League for under 6 through to under 17 age groups.
The Mining & Energy Union contributed $7,500 for the 2021 Rugby League season, to provide for the design, manufacture and delivery of uniforms and playing kits.
96.9 4RFM Radio
The costs to run the Moranbah community radio station add up to around $175,00 each year, which means the 96.9 4RFM team relies on funding. The Mining & Energy Union, together with Peak Downs, Goonyella-Riverside, Broadmeadow and Moranbah lodges has contributed $10,000.
The funding is important in helping the station deliver useful content, and for growing their volunteer base, hosting road safety week events and building up youth programs.
QLD Mining Industry Health & Safety Conference
Safety in mining is a priority and is one of the primary reasons the Mining & Energy Union exists. That’s why it was an easy decision to contribute to such an important event.
To run a successful show at a large venue, with keynote speakers and sessions demonstrating best practise and innovation, the Union contributed by donating $8,500 towards the 2020 event.
Callide Valley Community Family Fun Day
The Mining & Energy Union Callide Valley Community Family Fun Day is a chance for the mining and energy workers of this region to give back to their community. The event has lots of fun activities like rides, dodgem cars, Luke’s Reptile & Wildlife Show and a merry go-round.
The Qld District contributes in the form of an annual $10,000 sponsorship. The funds help keep the show running; an event that is important for the community.
