About The Mining & Energy Union

In practice the Mining & Energy Union (QLD) covers a wide range of work in the coal mining industry including production, surface labourers and maintenance/trade employees in underground mines, wash plant operators, mobile equipment operators, tradespeople and labourers in the open cut mines. Whilst there are other Unions in the coal mining industry who may cover some of this work, the MEU is the only Union who has the ability to cover and represent any employee in the industry. The MEU has been nominated as the “principle union” in the coal industry by the ACTU. This gives the MEU the sanction of the Trade Union Movement to recruit any employee in the industry.
